The Northland Events Centre is a concept driven by the rapidly growing Northland Region and represents the need for a Multi-Events community hub and Stadium & Conference facility.

Through consultation with our client, the Northland Regional and Whangarei District Councils, RCP developed a written Design Brief for the Project, which formed the basis for the Design and Construct based proposals from some of New Zealand’s pre-eminent construction companies. The result has been holistic proposals for the Design and Build of a brand new International Standard combined Stadium & Conference Facility that will be “the Jewel” in the sporting crown of the Northland region.

The process has resulted in a very high calibre selection of designs being submitted in the Request for Proposal (RFP) phase of the project’s management, as we now move into the final phase with the preferred contractor.

RCP have supported the council throughout the process with ongoing reviews of the five RFP submissions, compliance appraisals, clarifications, reports and supplementary specialised consulting services to enable the Councils to narrow their selection and finally arrive at a preferred contractor to execute the works.

The project is programmed to start on site 15th January 2009 and is scheduled for completion May 2010 resulting in the construction of a substantial community asset for Whangarei City and the Northern Region in general.

RCP are appointed as Project Manager for the Eden Park Redevelopment Board, assisting with Resource and Building Consents. As well as design and construction/contract management.

The scope of the proposed project includes:

Demolition works of the South, South West, East and Panasonic Stands.

New South stand

New Eastern stand with internal concourse

Western Concourse linking the south west and north west plazas

Car parking, entry plazas and site landscaping

Site Infrastructure

This project is focussed on minimising effects to neighbours with features such as new sports lights with low glare, improved PA systems, an acoustic screen to the East Stand, significantly improved internal pedestrian movements, better gate entrances and an improved transport plan to more efficiently integrate with public transport (linked to external ARTA initiatives).

This $240.5M project is due to be completed in late 2010, to enable sufficient lead in time for operational testing prior to the Rugby World Cup in September 2011
