On 14th August 2009 the New Zealand Institute of Building (NZIOB) Awards were held in Auckland celebrating the achievements of the individuals delivering major commercial projects in New Zealand. Our Matt Allen partnered up with Martin Kernighan of Hawkins Construction to win the $5M-$15M Category for the Tunnels and Corridors Redevelopment Project at Middlemore Hospital. This project was an enormously complex and risky operation for the hospital and was micro-managed carefully over 12 months of design and planning and 18 months of construction to very precise, staged timeframes. The project involved relocating primary building services infrastructure as well as temporarily diverting the existing public routes around the site in the heart of the existing hospital, affecting over 3000 pedestrians per day. Over 8 different buildings of varying ages were intersected by the new works which has culminated in a safer and more pleasant wayfinding experience for staff and visitors to Middlemore Hospital. Matt was assisted on this project by Martin Cooper.
