Paraparaumu Airport

Occupation Date: Ongoing Client: Paraparaumu Airport Ltd

RCP has been involved in this project from late 2005, providing extensive development management and client representation services to date.

Paraparaumu Airport was established in 1939 and is located on the Kapiti Coast, a growing area 50km north of Wellington. The Airport has a rich history, where from the late 1950’s through to the 1970’s it was New Zealand’s busiest aerodrome facility. The vision for Paraparaumu Airport is to establish the Airport as a destination of choice, providing regional commuters with an alternative to Wellington Airport. Supplementary to this, a commercial, retail and industrial park with high standards unequalled in Wellington is to be developed on site. Changes to the District Plan are required to allow this development to occur, and RCP has been at the forefront of considerable community consultation that has been undertaken in the past 2 years.

A 30 year masterplan has been developed, with an estimated $400m to be invested on the 125 hectare site. Stage 1 works are to include upgrading all aviation facilities, including the main runway, and establish an inspiring terminal building, which is currently being designed by Warren & Mahoney. Also part of stage 1 works will be large format retail and commercial/retail structures with a total estimated construction value of $20m. A large amount of site works will also be undertaken, including extensive landscaping. Works are scheduled to begin on site in Mid 2009.
