Mike joined RCP in 2022 as RCP expands its Advisory offering in the public sector. The team will focus on providing strategic advice to both local and central government on infrastructure.
Mike is passionate about doing meaningful work that will positively influence people’s lives. His public sector career began at the Treasury where he provided strategic advice to Ministers on a range of issues in the Economic Development, Tourism and Commerce portfolios, before moving to the National Infrastructure Unit. More recently, he provided advice to Department of Internal Affairs on key Government infrastructure initiatives, including the Infrastructure Funding & Financing Act and the Three Waters Reform.
With his deep public, infrastructure and economic policy experience, Mike brings an understanding of how central and local government think, behave and operate. He can join the dots for RCP’s clients, in both the public and private sectors, to identify either the opportunities or the risks. He’s excited about the prospect of partnering with organisations to bridge the private-public gap and deliver better outcomes.
Mike is looking forward to joining the advisory team and helping build out the public sector function that is highly valued by the business and its partners. Mike’s take on leadership is that it’s not about being the best or the smartest, it’s about bringing that out in others. Everyone is different so his approach is to really know what makes each team member tick so they can contribute their own unique skillsets, knowledge and experience.
Out of work hours, Mike enjoys being on the water, by the water or in the water. It’s his happy place. Most of all, he loves to sail and can often be found out on the Hauraki Gulf sailing or wing-foiling. He has even been known to work remotely from the boat.
