RCP were the project managers and acted as Engineer to the Contract on the $90million structural upgrade and redevelopment of the late 1960’s Unisys House and 1970’s Aurora Chambers serving to reposition this high-profile site at 56 the Terrace in Wellington as high quality A-Grade office accommodation, a bold new fit-for-purpose home for the Ministry of Social Development
The project has been specifically designed to meet the needs of the Ministry of Social Development and was governed by a development agreement that included detailed building performance specifications and sustainability to ensure that the development was suitable for MSD’s purpose. In particular, the Aurora Centre provides 23,000sqm of expanded and efficient floor plates which are well suited to the requirements of MSD and their desired work strategies.
Additionally, the architectural move to connect the Tower and Aurora Chambers building at level 3 – 8, and to insert inter-storey staircases throughout the height of the buildings enables a more open, flexible and connected style of working, which is beneficial to the current (and future) tenants. Overall, the development has succeeded in its aspiration to present a professional and modern tenancy for MSD that also has a strong interface with the public at its lower levels.
RCP provided full project management services including assisting with development agreement negotiations, design management, procurement and contract administration.
