RCP have been working with developer, Mansons and tenant, Telecom to deliver the 32,000 square metre commercial office complex in Auckland city. The development consists of four separate buildings on the site, all of which are interconnected with a series of bridges. A glass roof encapsulates the four buildings to create a large internal atrium space inviting the public in at ground level where retail outlets showcase Telecom’s latest technology and provide amenities for both staff and the public.

Demolition of the old NZ Post distribution centre commenced in May 2008, since then Mansons have continued to stay ahead of programme with a view to finish in the later quarter of 2010 when Telecom plan to move 2,500 staff into their new home.
The Directors of RCP take great pleasure in announcing the appointment on 1 April 2009 of Matt Allen as an Associate of RCP New Zealand.
Matt joined RCP in November 2004 following a period working as a Project Manager on the redevelopment of Southland District Hospital. Matt has over 10 years consulting experience, which has been put to good use on RCP projects as varied as Counties Manukau District Hospital, Sky TV’s Broadcasting Centre, a Commercial Development for Goodman and the new Christchurch City Council Civic Building.
As the Manager of RCP’s Christchurch office, Matt is enjoying the return to his Christchurch roots and the challenges that both business and project management bring. With the very strong support of an extremely capable team in Christchurch we have no doubt the office will continue to provide a strong and reliable project management resource to the Christchurch and broader South Island construction industry.
We welcome Matt to the RCP executive team and look forward to this ongoing contribution to RCP and the wider industry.
On 14th August 2009 the New Zealand Institute of Building (NZIOB) Awards were held in Auckland celebrating the achievements of the individuals delivering major commercial projects in New Zealand. Our Matt Allen partnered up with Martin Kernighan of Hawkins Construction to win the $5M-$15M Category for the Tunnels and Corridors Redevelopment Project at Middlemore Hospital. This project was an enormously complex and risky operation for the hospital and was micro-managed carefully over 12 months of design and planning and 18 months of construction to very precise, staged timeframes. The project involved relocating primary building services infrastructure as well as temporarily diverting the existing public routes around the site in the heart of the existing hospital, affecting over 3000 pedestrians per day. Over 8 different buildings of varying ages were intersected by the new works which has culminated in a safer and more pleasant wayfinding experience for staff and visitors to Middlemore Hospital. Matt was assisted on this project by Martin Cooper.
RCP Christchurch have been engaged as Project Managers for the redevelopment of the NZ Post Building in central Christchurch into Christchurch City Council’s new Civic Building. The new Christchurch Civic Building will incorporate and extension to the existing building structure, a new double skin façade added to the north elevation, together with the creation of the new Council Chambers.
The project aims to provide simultaneous on site electricity, cooling and heat generation through the incorporation of a landfill and biogas fueled Tri-Generation plant. The design is currently targeted as a 5 Star Green Building with further initiatives being considered to bring the building to a 6 Star rating. The project will be delivered as an integrated fitout, capturing the Council’s fitout requirements within the design process. The Client for this project a public/private Joint Venture between Christchurch City Council and Ngai Tahu Property.
RCP’s Auckland office provided Project Management services to AMP Capital Investors for the refurbishment of the dilapidated 3,500sqm Imperial and Everybody’s Building. Located at 44 Queen Street in the heart of Auckland’s CBD, the buildings date back to the early 1900’s, and were home to the Roxy and Everybody’s Theatres, and had been largely unoccupied for the last 40 years.
The Queen Street retail level has been transformed from low-end retail to now cater for high-end retailers Gucci and Louis Vuitton, whilst the upper levels have been completely gutted and refurbished ready to receive new office tenants. Original elements have been retained as much as possible which include the original Roxy Theatre ceiling and polished timber floors.
Practical completion was achieved on 31st May 2008, with on-going minor works to various spaces, including investigating the possibility of transforming the disused basement areas into bars, accessed off the evolving Fort Lane.
RCP worked with Savory Construction to complete the project, achieving all milestones and meeting AMP’s budget, despite many challenges during the 10 month construction programme.
The Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) is currently embarking on a major building programme involving two new premises in Auckland and one in Wellington – all of which are being managed by RCP offices. In June 2008 BNZ moved into the first of these new buildings at Quay Park– a 7,500m2 five storey development close to Auckland’s Britomart area and waterfront.
The base building was handed over to the fit out contractor in December 2007 for the commencement of the fitout works which involved the installation of a feature entry stair, structured cabling, security and audio visual works – all in coordination with the fitout construction. The building was progressively handed over to BNZ from mid May 2008 and now is home to around 300 staff. Three basement levels provide over 100 car parks.
The Auckland building was originally designed to achieve a 4 star rating from the New Zealand Green Building Council. However after the launch of Green Star NZ, the developer took the opportunity to revise the design and add further enhancements to the base build to improve the building’s environmental performance and a 5 star rating was awarded in April 2008 – only the second building in NZ to achieve this standard.
RCP is currently managing the fit out construction of a BNZ retail branch and café on the Ground Floor at Quay Park. These facilities are scheduled to be completed in late September 2008.
In line with RCP’s vision to be the Project Manager of choice to the New Zealand building industry, RCP has great pleasure in making the following appointments:
Bruce McDonald has been appointed as an Associate of RCP New Zealand on 1 April 2008. Bruce joined RCP in Auckland in 2000, and after a small stint away in 2003 he returned in 2004. Bruce has worked predominantly on Sky City Auckland, including the Sky City Casino refurbishment. He continues to work with Sky City, whilst also managing the Westpac – Project Unity fitout which consists of two buildings, and 20,000m2 of Office Space and is part of the RCP project team managing the redevelopment of Eden Park. We congratulate Bruce on his new appointment.
RCP also welcome the appointment of Graham Stanage as the Operations Manager for RCP New Zealand. Graham’s role will be to overview the technical aspects of all projects in the Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch offices and to provide assistance and advice as required. RCP see the Operation Manager role as a significant step forward in optimising systems and delivery processes across RCP and to provide a common link between the offices as we continue to grow and expand geographically.
As of Monday 22nd October 2007 we will be located at
Level 1
5 Eglon Street
Parnell.
We are pleased to announce the opening of RCP’s new Wellington Office on the 2nd of April 07.
RCP are very excited to already be involved in two significant ESD projects in Wellington; Pipitea Plaza a 16,500m2 commercial building in Thorndon designed by Athfield Architects for Redwood Group and BNZ’s new office tenancy a 14,000m2 Jasmax designed office fitout in Centreport’s latest waterfront development.
